Hey all,
Sorry for the infrequency of posts lately... but don't worry! The video has been shot, just not posted!
In the meantime, I got my first mail EVER in THREE MONTHS, and to commemorate, Lucy asked me to film it. Here it is!

Puttin' Through the Bible!
Whew! Three in one day, that's a bunch! Anywho, on Saturday, some friends from the several volunteer houses and I went to Lexington to find the mythical Bible themed putt putt course revealed to me by the great Jim Bodle, and as luck would have it, we chanced upon it!
It was an amazing journey through the Old Testament and the Miracles of God, but we emerged victorious! Here's a quick run through the most interesting holes in both the OT and the MoG, so lemme know what you think!
[By the way, I spent five minutes on Mt. Sinai trying to get the dang ball in the hole....wicked.]

Vertical Limit: The Pinnacle
Hey Y'all,
This was just this past Friday - myself and a few housemates hiked what is known as "The Pinnacles" in Berea - it's a massive trail system with several overlooks with views that stretch out over the hills of Kentucky. So, in part the deuce, here are views for you!

I'm the deckman! D-E-C-K-E-M-A-N!
Well hi there everyone after an extended hiatus!
Sorry that my posts didn't come with the same regularity the past week or so, but I'm making up for it with a triptych of posts today! First is this video from just down the road on KY-2004, where we were working on Danny's house, putting up 2 porches for his wife and him. It was a 2 week project, but we finished it, so here's the product at the end!

Another Day on the Roof
Boom Shaka-laka!
So, today is Thursday, but this vlog was recorded on Wednesday, and it was a crazy day at that! I don't have much to speak about, except to tell you that the wasp nests in the video were bigger than your fully opened hand. Scary!
Take care everyone,
mike

Saturday Frolfin'
Hey hey hey!
Today was a good, relaxing day. I slept in nice and late, got up and made some sweet leftover pancakes, and then went frolfing with Chris. Afterwards, he, Monica and I went to church at St. Claire's in Berea, and they had some cool people from Indiana who were actually originally from Bethlehem. They act as a non-profit distributor for souveniers made by Christians living in the Holy Land, and they sell goods made out of olive wood from there. I got some sweet things for from them, cause I'm all in support of things like that: 2 small crucifixes, a cross that spells out JESUS, and 2 rosaries made out of olive wood. After that, it was back to the J-house for football and Reds, and here I am!
Hope everyone's having good times wherever you are, and keep in touch! Hit me up in the comments with your lives, what you wanna see from me, and any other suggestions or questions!
Peace,
mike

Finally! Mike does some work!
Hooray!
I've finally remembered to both:
1) take my camera to a jobsite
and
2) film with it while there!
In this post, you'll see us working on Steve's house. It was built by another non-profit in Kentucky, but it was put together rather shoddily and with whatever materials were available to them at the time (we surmised). That being the case, the windows we were putting in were actually too big for the window holes, so we had to cut them down to get them to fit. Also, the existing windows were both screwed AND glued in (which you're NOT supposed to do), and made for a heck of a time trying to get the windows out. By the time I got around to filming, we had all the windows out and were getting ready to put the last 2 in, while Bobby and Ross put the finishing touches on the windows already in.
Enjoy!

A relaxin' Jackson afternoon...
Yo yo peeps,
I put together a little video on the afternoon of the Sunday of the week after disaster relief, which would have been the 7th of September. A little reflection, a little exposition, and a lot of boring. Check it out!

Pallet Tossing!
Hey all,
As long as youtube cooperates and I find some free time, there should be a few updates coming pretty quick these next few days, and hopefully we'll continue at that pace from here on out! In this installment, Ryan and I got bored at 3am during disaster relief, and decided to invent a new sport! Hope you all think it's awesome, cause we both did!

Disaster Relief
Hello there internet world and friends,
So these posts aren't coming as frequently as I'd like, but again, I'm renewing my efforts and hoping that'll change! Just to update you shortly since my last post, camp is officially over and I've started working with the housing arm of CAP. My job is basically to go around to people's homes who need repair work done and do it for them! In my 3 weeks on the job, I've replaced a LOT of windows, finished roofing a porch, replaced some doors, built a back porch/balcony (there ya go Aaron), and cleaned out the storage barn where we keep our supplies.
Currently, however, I'm working Disaster Relief in Louisville, KY. Basically, whenever there is a disaster that affects an Appalachian state, CAP may get a call for assistance. It just so happens that Louisville is one of the evacuation sites for the victims of Hurricane Gustav, and CAP was asked to drive their shower trailer to the city to offer showers to the evacuees, and also to help with laundry. The shower trailer is a converted tractor trailer that has 10 showers installed inside. Basically, you drive it up, hook up some water and power, and presto, showers! My job has been to clean out the showers each time someone finishes and prepare it for the next person. We've been running the trailer 24/7 since we got here on Saturday night before Labor Day, and I've been here since Labor Day working. It's been REALLY tiring, but rewarding as well because I've gotten to meet some AMAZING people.
So, in closing, here's a video of the shower trailer and myself, and hopefully you'll start to see more regular posts from down here showing you what my work is like!
Love you all, keep safe!

Teen Week and Stuff
Hey everyone!
So I decided to make some time to record a new blog to update you and show you a little of what camp is like! Hopefully next week I can show you more far-off, non-specific shots of the kids doing things, and update you on my life! If I look tired, it's cause I am!
Also, Laura, it's called "Real-Kill Wasp and Hornet Killer." It also goes by the names "Chemsico, Hot Shot, Schultz, and Spectracide." Same stuff, different name.
Enjoy!

A Long Time in Coming...
Hey Everyone! Believe it or not, and contrary to popular belief, I am NOT dead, but merely preoccupied and incredibly busy with camp! It takes a while for my sham of a video editing software to put my movies in the correct format, and this is the first chance I've had to sit down and make a new post! As there are only 3 weeks of camp left, I may or may not have the opportunity to post again before August, but keep your fingers crossed!
In this update, you shall see all the way back to Memorial Day weekend, and then the view from one of the beautiful natural wonders near camp called Pretty House. I don't know why. Don't ask.
Hope you all are well!

Cannons of Hay and Friends!
Hey all!
Sorry this one took so long to upload, but my new/old/new/old video site revver has decided to just randomly delete videos they didn't like, so here's some youtube video that hopefully will be replaced within the next few days... We shall see!
Also, there may or may not be a new vlog coming out tomorrow, it depends on whether or not I get a chance to edit together a MONTAGE!
Peace in the Middle East,
mike

And so it begins...
Hello everyone out there in internets land! For those of you who don't know me (and if you don't, why are you here?) my name is Mike, and for the next year of my life I'm going to be volunteering my time in wonderful Jackson County, Kentucky as a long term volunteer with the Christian Appalachian Project. You might ask yourself, why do that, dummy? Well, I feel like it's where I'm supposed to be, so here I am! For the next year, I'm going to be periodically updating you (yes, you) on the goings on at Camp Andrew Jackson, and then at the Jackson County Volunteer House, as I transition from Summer Camp Coordinator to Housing Volunteer. Thanks to my awesome parents and sis and broseph, I have a sweet video camera that I'll use to do most of my posts. Some may be informative, others insightful, some just a glimpse at what a crazy dude with near perfect teeth and a penchant for exaggeration finds awesome.
Because that's what I am. Awesome.
So, without further ado, it's the Camp AJ vLog #1!!!
Enjoy.
By the way, my video camera is awesome, Dad. Youtube just makes the video look crappy.
Cheers!
